Hi,
I have a question about using netgroups via NIS in conjunction with /etc/hosts.equiv. We are attempting to establish trust so users can rsh/rlogin into machines without supplying a password. This is for testing only in a lab environment. You should be able to put the name of a netgroup inside of /etc/hosts.equiv and have users from the specified hosts in the netgroup, to log in or remotely execute commands without supplying a password. It does not work for me using RedHat 7.2 and 7.3.
I know the netgroup works because the NFS server only allows machines in the netgroup to mount it's shares. Any thoughts on what could be the problem?
/etc/netgroup (on NIS Master)
cnet2331 (bart.foobar.net,,cnet2331.foobar.net) \
(lisa.foobar.net,,cnet2331.foobar.net) \
(dead.foobar.net,,cnet2331.foobar.net
/etc/hosts.equiv (on Client Machine)
@cnet2331
/etc/exports (On NFS Server)
/home @cnet2331(rw)
According to the NIS/NFS book by O'Reilly, this should work. Thanks in advance!
