[ale] System Load Analyzer

Is there a nice command line utility that will collect CPU and Memory 
utilization loads over time, for later charting?  I'm sure I could build 
something, but I'd rather not spend the time.  I've got an 5 year old 
system that is getting more and more added to it.  I'd like to see if 
 it can handle more, and I don't want to "sit there running top all day."
