[ale] wu-ftpd starts up slow

I'm running wu-ftpd as an anonymous ftp server. 
Problem is, when logging in, it says "Connected to
garcia (my ip address)" but have to wait about 10-15
seconds before it prompts you for a login.  Is this a
configuration problem?  Can I speed it up?
