[ale] Compile problem

All:

In trying to compile a NIC driver, I get errors about missing "modversions.h" which in Debian I got in a package called libc5-altdev (which looks ancient).  

Besides, it's looking for something called "linuxver.h" which doesn't seem to be in ANY Debian package.

Considering the source files are from 2001, and README say that it compiled with kernel 2.4.3, what am I missing here???
