[ale] Slack on Tecra 8200

I installed Slack 8 on my Tecra 8200 this weekend and am having trouble 
with it.

At boot, the letters LI show up and the screen freezes. This means that 
lilo isn't set up right (I selected option to install lilo 
automatically). During installation I wasn't able to create a boot disk 
because the floppy drive is USB. I don't know where to go from here to 
fix this.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
