[ale] read (asyncReadFromPPP)

Recently, I've been getting random disconnects from my Bellsouth dsl. 
/var/log/messages shows:

Apr  7 20:10:08 initiative pppoe[2085]: read (asyncReadFromPPP):
Input/output error
Apr  7 20:10:08 initiative pppoe[2085]: Sent PADT
Apr  7 20:10:08 initiative pppd[2084]: Exit.
Apr  7 20:10:08 initiative adsl-connect: ADSL connection lost; attempting
re-connection.


Any ideas as to what might be causing this?
