[ale] Screen Freezes

Hi All
Im trying to install SuSE 7.1 Alpha edition onto and 433au digital workstation. Everything goes grand till I run startx. Genome starts to load then freezes when I used more than 480/640. Ive tried changing the memory in the workstation and ive tried more than one graphics card. The one im currently using is a S3 Trio64 764, which for sure should be supported by SuSE 7.1 Alpha Edition. Does anyone have any ideas what??the problem??could possibly be????
