Unix came from Multics, which was an MIT research project.
And who perfected it?  Certainly not AT&T/Bell Labs?
And who gave us tcp/ip, which is powering the Internet!

Believe me, you don't want to live in a networking world 
with competing protocols like SNA, DecNet, IPX/SPX, 
AppleTalk, and Lan Manager.
