[ale] a distro of choice?

ive come to really like the automation of apt-get or
portage/emerge and i LOVE optimization. other than
scorceror linux and gentoo is there any distro that
has something that installs from source and yet uses
an apt-get like feature ? or am i stuck with gentoo??
(dont like scorceror as much) thanks for your time and
input :)
