[ale] failed kernel recompile

It looks like a bad download. Did the MD5 checksum pass? Download a new
full copy and try it again. I ran into this once with a rather custom
kernel that had lots of extra patches applied. Somewhere, a patch moved a
few line and stuff was called before it was declared. Oops!
