[ale] webnap & mysql error

I'm still learning how to use webnap 1.1.0, a MyNapster et al
client that uses php to access a local mysql database via browser
and interact with Napster-like databases.  I seem to have
followed the INSTALL instructions but now I get this error when I
try to query a musiccity server:

Fatal error: Call to unsupported or undefined function
mysql_pconnect() in webnap.inc.php on line 598

Can anyone point me towards a clue?
