I am personally partial to Mandrake (especially 8).  I started w/ RedHat
5.2, used LM 7.0, 7.2, and 8.  They finally got some thing right in 8 that
were kinda funky in earlier distros.

Without knowing what the box's function will be...kinda hard to say.  For a
raw server, I would go w/ Slackware, for a Desktop or Desktop/Server, LM 8

Just my $.02 worth.
