[ale] Grub

here is the setup RH 7.2 on the c drive a 4.5 gig drive  Windblows XP on d
drive 6.5 gig  c drive is all linux and d is partitiond to  2 drives xp is
loaded on it how can i get grub to load it ...thisis what i have done so far
and this it what it dose 

added 
title XPload
root (hd1,0)
makeactive
chainloder +1
 it dies right after root with an unknown file system so i did 

title XPload
rootnpverify (hd1,0)
makeactive
chainloder +1
now it just hangs wiht a black screen with the text
rootnpverify (hd1,0)
makeactive
chainloder +1

help what am i doing wrond
