[ale] postfix/fetchmail introduces ^Ms into my mail!?

Today my email started arriving with Carriage Returns at the end of
every line. My mailer (vm under emacs) shows them as ^M in each line.
My mail comes in from a POP server. It is a MS Exchange Server
running POP3. I was running fetchmail to grab it from the server and
hand it off to postfix to deliver. I have a Mandrake 8.1 system.
If I don't use fetchmail to get my mail, but just let vm get the mail
from the server I don't get the CRs. If I send myself an email to
localhost (so fetchmail doesn't touch it, but postfix does) I don't
get the CRs.
I've been using this setup for a while, but a) I have no idea when the
MS Exchange server changes, and b) I recently upgraded a bunch of
packages using the Mandrake updater, so I'm not sure exactly what got
updated. I know my kernel was updated, but I have trouble believing
that is responsible for this.
Here are my relevant packages:
fetchmail-5.9.0-4mdk
postfix-20010228-15mdk
Anyone seen this before?
Thanks,
Michael
