[ale] Epson Printers and USB

I am installing an Epson Stylus 820 in Linux 2.4.7 (RH7.2)
I see the device in the kernel messages as usblp0.  ls -l > /dev/usblp0
yields no printout.  I do not even get an error message.  I have this
printer setup as a raw printer in /etc/printcap and will be rpinting to it
from windows.  Is there something I forgot to do on the backend?
