[ale] Space allocation

Hello,
I just wonder is there any rule of thumb to approximate the space allocating
on device to fit XXX bytes of my data?
Let's say I need to put 2Gb file (just one), than how big should be
allocated space ?
the answer will probably depends on the several parameters:
 type of fs, number of files... ( what else ? )
