[ale] Backup

Could someone please help me out?

I need to run a script that will backup a directory to a network drive once
every day. With one added detail. If the file I'm backing up is called
myfolder then the backup file should be
//mynetworkdrive/myfolder.yy.mm.dd.time

Anyone know how I can do this? Also, I need to do this on both a linux and a
windoze box.
