[ale] Promise ATA/100 Controller

I have a Promise pdc20267 ATA/100 card (rebadged as Maxtor) and I've
been going around trying to figure out what can be done with it.  Is
there a particular distro or kernel version I can use for detect-and-go
or am I looking at a situation where I have to install using the mobo's
onboard IDE and do a kernel patch, upgrade and/or rebuild?
