Yes. The problem was that the ribbon cable connecting the
motherboard's serial pinouts to the DB9 connector was
wrong.

Actually I'm running at 460800 - it's nearly as fast
as the cable modem, so I don't even notice a speed
difference between this machine and the Ethernetted
ones when going out to the Internet :-)
