[ale] Command to force an email

I have a script which sends an email.

mail -s test john at myplace <message.txt

I would like to force an immediate mailing as soon as the script executes.
I think Linux is waiting for some time before sending the message. Isn't
there a command I can invoke to push the mail out immediately?
