[ale] cmd/script->"climb" tree until designated byte total is attained ?

Good morn,

Does anyone have a line command [or script] to permit traversing a given
tree until a specified byte total is reached ?

The goal is to be able to treat subsets of trees for any arbitrary
purpose, e.g. extirpating a subset for archiving, etc..
