[ale] 3C509BTP EtherLink III Good or Bad?

Sorry for the unnecessary question!  I found Becker's page which answers
the IRQ setup.  How do I check if the card is good or not?  Is the link
layer light not lighting on the hub a sign?  I know the cables and hub
are just fine by testing with the PCI Ethernet cards I tried earlier.
