That is correct,?? but I want this to take place when the cd boots up and the root filesystem be on the CD.?? Like a live filesystem CD.?? I have 2 drives if I rdev with /dev/hdb and put cd in /dev/hdc will it boot?

I know where my cd is but how will the kernel know what device the root file
system is located on?
Run rdev on the boot image b4 you record it.
