[ale] RMP major package numbers?

Hi,

I am trying to install some RMP packages but keep getting the error message
:

"only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM"


For example :

[root]# rpm -i -v mod_ssl-2.7.1-2.i386.rpm
only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM
error: mod_ssl-2.7.1-2.i386.rpm cannot be installed

OR

[root]# rpm -i -v mod_ssl-2.7.1-3.i386.rpm
only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM
error: mod_ssl-2.7.1-3.i386.rpm cannot be installed


I have also tried to install the latest version of RPM but get the same
error message :

[root]# rpm -i rpm-4.0-4.i386.rpm
only packages with major numbers <= 3 are supported by this version of RPM
error: rpm-4.0-4.i386.rpm cannot be installed
