[ale] Mounting CD in RH 7

Why the first time I try to manually mount a CD in RH 7 that I get errors and failed mount.?? If I issue the command a second time it works but takes a little longer. I also now have to specify the iso9660 option where before I did not.?? What has changed between 6.2 - 7??? I feel that with RH making it easier for new users, it is becoming harder for veterans because of the changes.?? One example, XDM no longer responds to X server broadcasts.
