[ale] GDB / DDD under X

GDB (when run under DDD in X-Windows) gives the following error:
"cannot open /dev/pts/1: Input/Output error"
There is no /dev/pts/1 on my machine. Is gdb looking for another "X
session"?
If so, how can I get this activated?
(DDD talks about a '.blockTTYInput' resource which I can't find,
either.) Any ideas?
