[ale] library problems continue

Okay, this is driving me nuts. I'm trying to upgrade to gnome 1.2 and
the libraries seem to be created inconsistently. Why is it that when
some libs are installed, there are two sym links created as in:
lib: lib.foo.so.1.0.0
sym: lib.foo.so.1
sym: lib.foo.so
And others have one:
lib: lib.foo.so.1.0.0
sym: lib.foo.so.1
I'm still wrestling with this libbz2.so library problem. I've got:
lib: libbz2.so.1.0.0
sym: libbz2.so.1
But things like the latest gnome-help-browser is complaining about not
being able to find libbz2.so
Pointers to info that explains how this is supposed to work would be
greatly appreciated.
