[ale] Redirecting STDERR

I am running some pretty long bash scripts and having it dump info to
2 files that correspond to STDOUT and STDERR. I want to add a line in
the script that prints a message to STDERR. Very much like the "select
STDERR" in Perl would print everything to STDERR until another
'select' takes place. If you follow me, how do I do this?
