[ale] Open Source Hardware Diagnostics

I was looking for a linux program similar to QAPlus, or HWinfo
(http://www.hwinfo.com). I know that /proc will give a lot of that
information, but I was looking for a more in dept implementation. For
example the program should test the entire ram bit by bit, and harddrive
sector by sector etc...

Does such a program exist for linux? I would be willing to use a dos/windows
based program, as long as it was full gpled.
