[ale] 6x4 cdrom

i have a 4 disk 6x speed ide cdrom.
the first disk has always worked well with out any tweaking.
i've been trying to get my system to recognize the other three.

how is this done?
the first disk is /dev/hdd
for the second i've tried /dev/hde, /dev/hdd2.

has anyone used one of these?
