[ale] Oddness from gcc and configure

Are you still getting problems saying the configure script can't find
g++ or c++?  What happens if you type g++ from your shell prompt?  Does
is say "g++: No input files".  If so, the configure script should be
finding the g++ executable.  If not, maybe for some reason your PATH is
messed up?
