[ale] Sendmail problem

Our primary smtp e-mail server (sendmail) is acting up (big time bad thing).
We are recieving but not sending.  have reset sendmail with
"sendmail -bd -q1h" and when that didnt work, I reset the server.

Mail log (/usr/lib/mail) reports every 1-2 seconds that aliases.db is out of
date.  Could this be problem?  How to Fix?????
