[ale] Email deletions broke

OK, as the saying goes, I touched nothing and noticed today that no matter
what e-mail client is used (pine, netscape, IE, etc.) the email are not
deleted, nor are they even marked as read. It's almost as if they are marked
read-only or something.

Setup:
RedHat 5.2 (kernel updated to 2.2.12)
Sendmail 8.9.3-2
fetchmail
procmail

Fetchmail is pulling in all of my e-mail for one domain, and a bunch of
individual pop3 boxes from various servers, then procmail disperses them to
each user. Has been working fine for almost a year. In the last couple of
days, I've noticed that the e-mail messages are still arriving just fine, but
you can not delete them, mark them read, etc. I even telneted into the linux
box and fired up Pine. It will not even mark the messages as read, let alone
delete them. ('root' account included)
