[ale] Simple sed question

I am stumped on what should be a very simple sed operation.

I have some files that I would like to replace the "'" (apostrophe) with a
blank space.

I thought the following would work, but it bombs:

sed -e 's/\'/ /' filename.txt

Anyone have any hints?
