Did you get an answer to your problem? I had the same thing last
night. I copied all the data from /dev/hda to /dev/hdc and then tried to
install lilo on /dev/hdc. It gave me an error about disk geometry. It is a
large disk with more than 1024 cylinders, so I ran lilo again with "linear"
and it installed. I have done fresh installs on disks like this one and
never had a problem; however, I got that same error code, which is about
disk geometry. I got it to boot from a floppy and tried to run lilo again
even giving it the disk geometry, but the results were the same.
I am thinking about installing again with a small /boot partition at
the start of the disk. Let me know if you came up with a different solution.
