/var contains a number of log files, therefore, that filesystem can
continuously grow if you don't monitor it. By placing / and /var on
different filesystems, you protect / from getting corrupted. /var
filesystem could get full, causing errors and problems requiring fsck.
If / is on the same filesystem, it's possible to corrupt / because of
the space issue.
I don't know if I explained that right, does that make sense?
