I have used the "find" command to find all files created
after a certain date that are of a certain type and feed
them into "tar". Check the man page of "find" for Linux. I
was working in IRIX so I am not sure of how similar the
commands are. At the moment, I am excited about setting up
a Linux server here for centralized NFS mounts with
mirroring of drives and using GNU tar for backup. So far, I
understand that GNU tar has the ability to verify backups
which IRIX tar does not. A salesman at Arkeia, who sells
high priced high quality backup software, pointed me toward
Amanda, a free utility for remote backups. Supposedly,
Amanda will do most of what the expensive packages will do.
I have yet to check it out.

PS. For businesses strictly using Linux, the Arkeia
software sounded like a great deal. My quote was for 25 SGI
systems and was $11K plus!!! So I will look at Amanda and
GNU tar!!
