I am having problems connecting to my server using Samba.?? Every time I try
to connect through Network Neighborhood I get an invalid password error.??
Listed below are some of the things I have done to try to correct this
problem.?? If anyone has some ideas on this I would really appreicate it.
* I created the smbpasswd file with:?????? cat /etc/passwd |
makesmbpasswd.sh > /etc/smbpasswd
* Here is a sample of the file
oracle:502:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX:XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
:Oracle Administrator:/home/oracle:/bin/bash
* Dumb question here -Do I need to put my unencrypted password in the
smbpasswd file??? If so which set of Xs do I replace
* I modified the smb.conf as follows
???????????????????????????? in the [global] area
?????????????????????????????????????? security = user
?????????????????????????????????????? encrypt passwords = yes
?????????????????????????????????????? smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd
??
* I have run testparm smb.conf and did not get any errors
* I have also set up LMHOSTS file in my C:\Windows directory which
points to a central CLMHOSTS file on the server
?????????????????????????????????????? LMHOSTS on the Win98 machine
?????????????????????????????????????? # client LMHOSTS file
?????????????????????????????????????? 10.0.2.15?????? dbserver?????? #PRE
?????????????????????????????????????? #INCLUDE?????? \\DBSERVER\etc\CLMHOSTS
<file://DBSERVER/etc/CLMHOSTS>
??
?????????????????????????????????????? CLMHOSTS file on the server
?????????????????????????????????????? 10.0.2.20?????? desktop_1
?????????????????????????????????????? 10.0.2.50?????? desktop_2
* Do I need to have entries in the DNS/WINS for my Win98 machine?
* What about NIS - could this be a problem?
* I can ping boxes left an right - everything seems ok on that end.?? I
am able to talk to Oracle from my Win98 boxes, using SQLPlus or through
PowerBuilder.?? I can connect through telnet just fine.
* When I run the following
???????????????????????????????????????????????????? smbclient -L dbserver -U oracle -N
??
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? I get this as an error - 'Bad password -
name/password pair in Tree Connect....'
??
At this point I am at a complete loss and have run out of ideas.?? This isn't
rocket science, but I'm sure making it look that way.
??
Thanks for all your time.....
