[ale] nfs error

I just upgraded a machine running "stock" Redhat v6.0 using kernel 2.2.5
with the latest v2.2.x kernel (2.2.12).  The kernel compiled properly, but
on boot up I keep getting an error when trying to start the nfs daemon.
The error message is "nfssvc not available".  I did enable nfs in the
kernel configuration - in fact it is compiled directly into the kernel
rather than as a module.

Any one have any hints?
