[ale] speaking of sound cards ...

i was able to get my ess 1868 audiodrive pci card working under rh linux, but
the sound is so quiet/faint.. i used the kde mixer and turned the sound up all
the way (on my unpowered speakers)..   any suggestions (aside from trying some
powered speakers), on getting the volume up?
