[ale] Anyone tried SANED?

I have sane working fine local, however the network part is another story.
Has anyone used this feature for accessing a  scanner over the network?  The
docs on the SANE site are worthless, and all while looking in the mailing
archive everyone who asks for docs is sent to that worhtless section on the
homepage.

Any help would be great... At least the local scan support is great
