[ale] Ipchains or maybe a firewall problem...

I just installed the Slackware 4.0 beta and am using ipchains to allow
masquerading.
My question is:
Is there a way to set up ipchains or some other tool to keep those on the
outside from pinging or tracerouting your machine. I have a machine using a
cable modem and I have no problems with outbound connections from home but I
can't ping or traceroute my machine at home. I have a static IP so I am
lost as to what's going on. I didn't have this problem with Redhat 5.2 or
Slackware 3.6 so I'm thinking it's a setting that is defaulted in the new
Kernel.
Any ideas before I go recompiling the kernel.........
