[ale] Kernel Parameters

I need to configure the kernel parameters for Linux ( RH 5.2).  I am still
learning just about everything for Linux, so I am not sure where/now to do
this.  These parameters are:

SHMMAX
SHMMIN
SHMSEG
SEMMNS
SEMMNI
SEMMSL

These are parameters for Oracle8.  What is not clear to me is, are these
parameters or systems vars that could be set in the .profile.  The install
on this part is very vague.  Has anyone done an Oracle8 install?
