I just bought a 440 for my wife as a temporary replacement for her
printer at school. I've now got it at home. I'm using it as a Samba
connected printer. Ghostscript 5.50 supports, but you will want to look
into the stcolor driver. It's in the docs. The best it will do is
360x360 for me, but the driver is supposed to support 720x720. It
prints sharper than my Canon bjc600e, but then again, it's a newer
printer. For the price I think it's a fine printer, but I wouldn't
expect to print photo quality stuff. One note, this thing is really
loud, at least compared with my Canon printer.
If you get to the point where you're going to actually purchase this
printer, let me know and I'll be glad to swap it over to my Linux box
and see if there is any difference between a local printer and a Samba
printer.
