[ale] Adaptec 1740 card

I realize this is slightly off-topic, but the above mentioned card IS 
running in a Linux box!  When the machine boots up I receive a 
message from the 1740 card that "Shadow RAM diagnostics 
failed".  Adaptec wants to charge for any info about this card and I 
don't have the manuals.  Does anyone know what this means 
(beyond the obvious) and if it will affect me if I am not using a boot 
device on this card?  Thanks in advance!
