I don't know about the G640 however the Diamond Stealth II uses the
Rendition v2x00 chip, Xi has a accelerated X server for said ship however
its $99.. (The full blown redhat may actualy have it, I don't remember
which X servers redhat ships with)..
SuSE has a unaccelerated X server which is a bit slow, but it does work..
I also understand that the support for the rendition chip will be in the
next release of Xfree, I'm not sure on the acceleration of it tho..
(Note that you CAN use the SuSE and Xi servers with redhat however you may
have to do a bit of tweaking for it to run perfectly)

I know how that goes..

XFree86 is the X server, but yes.. (Well, it also effects svgalib stuff
but thats another issue entirely)

Or you can simply not install X-Windows, I don't have it installed and
have not for quite some time (The reason I know about this is because I
have a Stealth II)..

Sorry, not me..

Erm, no idea, but its a good question..
On another note, the v2x00 is a 2D/3D card HOWEVER we currently do not
have documentation for the 3d microcode, meaning we probley won't be
seeing 3D acceleration on the v2x00 for a while.. :/
Hope this helps..
