[ale] Problem with 'make modules'

I'm having problems running make modules.  This is what I run into:

sound_switch.c: In function `init_status':
sound_switch.c:97: parse error before `SOUND_CONFIG_DATE'
sound_switch.c: In function `sound_ioctl_sw':
sound_switch.c:532: warning: unused variable `mixdev'
make[2]: *** [sound_switch.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/linux/drivers/sound'
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/linux/drivers'
make: *** [modules] Error 2

Anybody, anybody.  I don't understand?  Did I do something wrong in the 
make xconfig part.
