are you sure that the cp command is actually locking up the system and
not just taking a very long time? can you switch terminals and log in?
do so, if possible and execute 'du' a couple of times to see if the new
partition is being filled.

if you can't even switch terminals then you've got me. anybody out there
understand ez-drives?
