I've got a RedHat 5.1/Intel install whose ftp server isn't working for
no reason I can figure out. inetd is starting up (according to my boot
screen) and the inet.conf lists ftp as a service but when I try to ftp
to it I keep getting a "service not available, connection closed by
host" message. I don't know why this is happening. Can someone tell me
what *must* be setup/configured in order for ftpd to be operational?
I've got another machine that I thought was identically configured that
works just fine. Also, when I "ps al" as root, I don't see the inetd
process listed. How can I confirm that a daemon is running and
operational?
thanx & later,
