Sounds like RAID 0.

Using the MD driver, yes?

A very good idea for a news server, as it allows you to balance your IO load
across multiple spindles. The only drawback comes into play when you lose a
disk. You lose the entire filesystem. For protection against that, you
need to move to RAID 5, but then you lose a little performance.
